He seen the tear fall from her closed eye and tears rolled down his cheeks. They had been threatening to fall for some time now and did as the single tear dripped down her features. He held her hand in his own with no intention of letting go. He felt the small movement in her finger and nearly jumped for joy, but soon after her heart beat slowed down and tons of doctors rushed in, pushing him out of the way.
Hannibal leaned against the wall and fell to the floor as they shocked her again and again and again, but still no pulse was gained. He buried his head under his arms and listened as they said time and one doctor began to pronounce her time of death. More tears fell from Hannibal's brown eyes as he thought for sure that she was dead. He didn't know what he'd do. She was gone, and he was left alone. He didn't even get to say goodbye to her before she... she... SHE'S ALIVE! He looked up as the doctor said they had a strong pulse. He looked up at Kate and watched the doctors as they checked everything.
He carefully got up and walked over to her bed very hesitantly as all the doctors left. He was afraid to touch her in fear that something else would happen. "D-don't do that t-to me..." he spoke in disturbed tones as he looked at her features. "You're gonna make me flat line too..." a soft, very nervous laugh escaped his vocals as he tried to lighten up the moment for himself. He bit his lip a bit and very gently touched her hand again, remembering that he'd felt her finger move. She could hear him at least... "Don't move anything again either... I know you're listening now. Sorry I made you cry." he said with a very soft smile as he wiped the streak from her features.
"I'm glad your back here... I mean, not glad that you came here and got hurt, but glad you came back at least. I wasn't myself without you..." he explained nervously. He tried his best to keep talking so he could talk to her as much as he could before visiting hours were over to her. He debated telling her how things had gone while she left... It would be something he could talk about for hours he guessed. "Well, I don't want to run out of things to say 'cause the doctor said talking could help you wake up... So..." he said quietly, not knowing if he should tell her or not. "Umm... I took up pot while you were gone. Yeah strange thing to talk about, but I'm definitely going to stop if you make it out of this." his eyes shifted around nervously as he spoke. "I missed you a lot... and got lost in your house a few times." he said with a nervous laugh. He'd decided not to tell her about his cutting. He pulled the sleeves back over his hands again, just as a nervous habit.

Kate listened to Hannibal as he talked to her at first his words were blurred and she did not understand them and now they sounded muffled but understandable.
I took up pot while you were gone kate’s heart beat picked up as if she was trying to tell him how she felt about it.
The longer kate tried to listen to things it seemed the more muffled it became, and soon Kate heard nothing, it was like a dream. Kate couldn’t feel Hannibal’s touch but she felt his warmth.

"Calm down..." he said quietly, stroking her face as her heart beat sped up. "I know... it's really bad... I was just hanging around the wrong people... I met this guy and his girlfriend had left him, but she never wrote back. She just left. He got me started with a lot of different things... but pot relaxed me. I don't smoke it a lot, I promise." he said quietly. His nervous babbling took over and then it was a lot easier to talk. He'd still decided not to tell her about the cutting. He couldn't do that. "I'm sorry about that. I'm so nervous..." a small frown showed itself on his face as he looked at her. "I just needed something to calm me down when I worried about you..." he said softly, still feeling the need to explain things to her. He knew she probably didn't want to hear that but he told her anyway.

Kate still heard nothing Hannibal said so she did not even try anymore. The same Female Doctor walked into the room, she knocked on the door before coming in Visiting hours are over now. the Doctor paused like she was thinking I talked to the guys that were in the ambulance and they told me that when they got there you were pulling pressure on her wound, is that right? the doctor asked.

He looked up, still holding Kate's hand. He stroked her hand with his thumb and kissed it gently. "Yeah... That didn't make things worse did it?" he asked softly. He looked up to her with worried eyes, thinking that if he had made her worse then he would feel horrible. He hoped that the bit of pressure he'd put on her to try and stop her bleeding hadn't made her worse.

Oh no! If you hadn’t put pressure on her wound she would have died before our guys would have gotten there. the doctor said as she went over to change the I.V. bag. If she makes it out of this it will be because of you. the doctor paused How did you know what to do? she asked.

He sighed with relief as she said that it helped. He would have been horribly hurt if he'd been the one who helped put her in this state. He hated seeing her like this. She then asked how he knew what to do. He could have completely taken over and let his ego grow or he could have been truthful and he decided the truth was best because Kate could still be listening. He didn't want to lie like that. "I heard the shot and I rushed down to see her. I was panicking and she told me what to do. I was so worried..." he said quietly. Panicking was what he did best because he'd never been in that situation before. Sure he'd helped her before, but she would have died right beside him if he wouldn't have braved his fears.

Mmm… well good job. the doctor nodded and then said as she walked back out you can come back tomorrow I’ll let you know if anything happens
--
-later on that night-
Kate’s heart slowed to another stop the alarm went off… the doctors came back into her room just as rushed as the last time but this time one stronger shock did the trick.
Two more times Kate’s heart stopped. Each time shortly after the first time they happened.
And only once did Kate’s wound start bleeding.
--
-next morning-
the doctor went into the Kate’s room just a little after visiting after had started to again change Kate I.V. bag. Then she waited in the room until Hannibal showed up she was off duty until the following day.

Hannibal nodded slightly and waved a small good bye.
------------------------------------
He returned the next morning after a late start. He hadn't slept well because he was trying to quit smoking. He usually had a joint before bed because it relaxed his nerves. He was very jittery this morning and walked in to see that the doctor was already here. "Hi." he said quickly as he looked over at Kate. "How was she?" he asked quietly, as he messed with his hands and looked back over to her. The doctor didn't look really happy, but then again every time he saw a doctor, they didn't look happy. Except for last night when they got a pulse last night. Everyone had been happy as they nearly pronounced her dead.

well the Doctor said Kate’s heart stopped beating twice and we had to patch her wound again because it starting bleeding, but she has been going well today. she stood up from the chair she sat in.I’m afraid to say if her heart stops other time we can’t do anything for her, it will start hurting her more than helping her. the doctor finished talking and walked out as she was paged for a call.
Kate laid still sleeping but she did not hear anything.

Hannibal listened to her words, trying to stop fidgeting and pay absolute attention. He couldn't help his fidgeting, but heard every word that he needed to hear. He sighed heavily and drew in a fast breath to try and calm down. He walked over to Kate and picked her hand up, stroking the top of it with his thumb as he sat down beside her. "Kate you've got to wake up. They are starting to get doubtful and aren't going to be able to help you anymore..." he said sadly as he looked at her motionless features. He longed to hear her voice and see that sparkle in her eyes once more.

Kate didn’t hear his begging words. She only felt his warm. Kate concentrated on moving some part of her body to get back to the real world.
After some time of trying Kate’s thumb finally moved but only for the smallest moment, but kate still herd nothing. It was like she was not even in the same world.
--
-Three Weeks Later-
Over the past month kate did not move again, kind of like the story Sleeping Beauty but Hannibal couldn’t just kiss her and she’d awake up and live happily ever after. Kate lost track of how any times she felt Hannibal’s warmth it seemed like one big blah that lasted for ever.
At the end of the three weeks suddenly Kate started to hear soft almost hopeless words like they were on the edge of giving up on on her but desperately need her to wake up. Kate started to move her fingers without concentration, feeling the details of someone’s hand.
Kate’s eyes started to flick under her eyes lids. Then moments later Kate opened her eyes a little. A soft weak voice came from her mouth Hannibal? Kate’s eyes were still half closed, her mouth was dry and her body was a bit sore, but she seen Hannibal. He looked like a wreck worst than he did the day she came home.

Call hopeless, or call it love... Hannibal was at the hospital, talking to Kate every day, except one when one of his grandparents passed away... He was there for her, telling her all kinds of stories, even some that were probably unneeded, but he talked to her as much as he could. There were times that he'd needed a water bottle because he'd been talking so much. He talked for hours, hoping that it would help her through this coma. Sometimes it seemed like it didn't, but other times when she moved a finger or her thumb it brought new joy into his heart.
He'd tried his hardest to quit smoking pot, but the longer that she was in the coma that harder it was to quit. It soothed his nerves and it stopped his constant fidgeting. He was a lot more talkative when he wasn't fidgeting and trying to ignore the headaches. He'd almost given up hope, and started cutting again, but something stopped him. A feeling that something good was going to happen. It stopped his urges to cut and he went to the hospital, thinking that something good was going to happen. After hours of being here he spoke hopeless words, and felt horrible. It was almost time for him to go home, and again, she didn't wake up. Another long day of talking to her still didn't help.
Just as the hopeless words left his mouth her fingers started to move, more then ever before. Hannibal's heart almost exploded out of his chest. He was so happy. He still held her hand in his as her fingers gently moved over his skin to feel around. Hannibal's hands shook as he saw the movement under her eyes, and finally seen her eyes open a bit. His hands shook no less as he looked at her eyes, almost not believing that she was finally getting out of it. She spoke his name in very soft words and a small smile broke over his pale features. He hadn't smiled in so long, it almost hurt. "Kate... I'm here." he said as tears of joy threatened to fall from his brown eyes. He stroked her hand gently and kissed it softly. "I've missed you so much Kate..." he said, the small smile remained on his features.

Kate’s hand were weak but she tried never the less to grip his hand. After a minute Kate opened her mouth to speak I heard…you cry. her eyes were still a bit heavy as she tried to smile but it was the weakest ever.
I tried to wake up… for you Kate’s voice was still very weak but she still wanted to talk to Hannibal.
Kate tried to prop herself up but her arms slipped out from under her weight. Kate cleared her throat I hugged you when I died… kate paused when you covered your face and cried…. I saw my body lying here.

He listened as she said she saw him cry. That wasn't hard to believe. He was just a sobbing mess. He's cried so many times over these long horrid days. Some times he cried in spite himself because it felt like he wasn't doing enough, or he cried because she was dying right in front of him. "I'm glad Kate. I've been here almost ever day for you..." he said quietly, not regretting a day he spent with her.
He listened to her as she said she'd hugged him when she died. Those three times that they tried to start again she was flat lined the whole time. He'd backed against the wall, and cried. "Sadly, I didn't feel it. I wish I would of though. I really had needed a hug. I was so worried that you weren't going to make it..." he said quietly, looking into her eyes. He couldn't have well after all that time of not seeing him. He was still in ok physical condition, aside from his new smoking habits and loosing a bit of weight... but he kept fidgeting because he hadn't smoke this morning and he was a wreck because he'd been loosing hope. She was here for so long that he was starting to doubt that she'd wake up.
