Soon the nurse called Leland in...... as Elani lay in the bed her wrist ached. It was torture living this way. Looking up at Leland she smiled.

Leland smiled softly back. Hey Kiddo, trying to give the hospital a good scare? his voice had a little hit of laughter as he was trying to cheer her up because no one in their right mind would like a hospital so having someone to make you laugh, which is what Leland did best, was a gift from god if you had to stay long.
He walked across the room to the chair that sat three feet from the bed he pulled it out just a little more to give his tall figure a little more room to sit down and not invand her space. Leland reaached into his pocket and grabbed something... he pulled his hand out and in his palm was a small white rose made from glass... he push a tiny black buttonon the black and inside the rose started to change colors from a multi colored light and it played the tone "under my wings"... Brought you something so you are not so lonely during the night here. Leland smiled... it was not a gift to win her over or to try and pick her up... Leland was always getting things for people weather or not they asked for it...

Elani saw he was trying to cheer her up so she gave a small smile. Watching him when he sat down she wondered why he had sat so far away, but blew it off when he reached into his pocket. When he first pulled it out she thought it was a ring. Not wanting another relationship right away with someone she didn't really know, she was about to speak when he pushed a button and it began to change colors and play music. It was then that she relized it was a friendly gift. Smiling,happy tears came to her eyes. Thank You. gently grabbing the rose shaped thing like it was an ancient artifact she carefully held it up and examined it. You didn't have to do this.... Elani said smiling.

I know but I figured that seeming the docs would want to keep you here for a little while you’d get bored just laying there, so I thought the music and the lights inside the rose might give you a little entertainment. Leland spoke in a cheerful tone it was almost little kiddish… Besides I like to randomly give people things…
Leland leaned back in the chair and stretched his long legs out a little bit… and he sighted… for some reason he could not get himself to sleep last night… he could not get Elani out of his mind… after all she was pretty much dead as he carried her out of the woods.
After a few minutes Leland spoke up again So you got any family? he stuck his hands back into his pockets and waited for her to answer, he would understand completely if she did not want to answer him I mean he was a stranger that had saved her less than twenty-four hours ago and for some reason took liberty to buy her a gift just to help time pas by during her time in the eerie hospital…

Leland's cheerful tone made Elani smile,and she could hardly believe that he just gave people random presents,nice ones too,but she played along. Noticing he was tired she asked, Not get a good rest last night? Laying in her hospital gown she remembered how much he had helped her.
Being a very social and open person Elani usually never had any problems when people asked about her personal life. "Better to let it out than to keep it in." She had always said to herself.So you got any family? Elani let the question churn in her head. If you considered a family a group of backstabbing humans you called your parents then yes. Her family had never treated her fairly, they always had hated her,but loved her at the same time, if that is even possible.There was one thing that they had been right about though....her Ex-boyfriend. Elani had been running away with her boyfriend when she had been "attacked" but she had failed to mention this to the police. Yes I have a family. Elani calmly replied. Wanting to spark the conversation she added,What about you?

Leland sighted I Did… Still do… kind of. I never knew my father and my mother died a few years back she had cancer… All that is left is Old brother and my little sister. You might have probably heard of my Brother, Rafe Diesel, he is the city bad boy you hear every one talk about. Leland paused then continued after a minute Me and Rafe don’t talk hardly anymore and Kate, my sister, lives with me but she is hardly there… she likes the party scene more then sitting at home watching T.V. scene. Leland finished talking his vocals switched from the cheerful little kid in the body of a 21 year old to almost like an old man looking back in time and loving the memories that he found when he spoke of his remaining family.
After a minute Leland looked back up to Elani’s eyes he wondered why her family was not here with her… here is your family? Don’t think they might want to know what is going on? Leland spoke as if he was walking on very thin ice carefully saying each word as to not anger her…

My family wouldn't care if I was dead or alive. So i guess as of now.....I have no family. Giving a faint smile she turned her attention back to the rose. Talking about her family made her memories go back. For some odd reason she could never remember a happy time with them, it had always been screaming and yelling every minute of every day. The slamming of doors had not been rare and they almost never were all in the same room.
It took her a minute to realize that the hand that was holding the rose was shaking. Clutching the glowing trinket she looked up. I don't know what I am going to do when I get out of the hospital. a blank exspression plastered across her face.
